Taiwan has the third highest vegetarian population in the world. According to the World Vegetarian Population Report, Taiwan's vegetarian population is close to 3 million people, which is about 13% of total population. In 2017, Taipei was named one of the "World's Top 10 Vegan-Friendly Cities" by CNN.

While vegetarians remain the minority in the world, there is an increasing number of people consuming animal products. Flexitarians do not exclude animal products entirely, but prefer plant-based products, fruits and vegetables. In 2020, flexitarians have accounted for 42% of the world's population. In a nutshell, vegetarianism is becoming a new dietary trend.

With a rising level of environmental awareness,  an increasing number of people now pay more attention to health issues and animal welfare, and have since become supporters of vegetarianism.
